Math-This is a challenging chapter for many students, but overall, they are doing very well. This is where it becomes very important for students to be able to accurately and efficiently solve single digit math facts because there are so many within each 3-digit addition and subtraction problem! Please continue to use the same process on word problems of having students identify whether they are given two parts or a part/whole and what type of operation they will use as well as drawing bar models.
Spelling-Please label the page when you start a new step, as well as number the sentences you dictate. This helps the students quickly find where they should turn to when we're working in our journals in class. We use the sentences frequently in conjunction with Grammar so if the students don't have their journal or didn't do the work at home, they end up just sitting there while the rest of the class is working.
Poetry-The students are doing a fantastic job of memorizing their poems. As a reminder, students should be reciting all poems learned thus far as well as the current one that we are working on.
History-Next week will be our Quarter 1 Timeline Assessment. Students should be able to recognize a short description of each and match it to the timeline event/person. They'll also be given an opportunity to pick one event/person and write 2-3 sentences about it. We'll do an in-class review beforehand.
