Math- When learning multiplication tables, using flashcards for repetition and memory is very useful. Please also practice ways to find the answer if the student can't remember. For example, if I can't remember 3 x 5, can I use a fact I do remember to find the answer by counting forward or backward. If I do remember that two fives is 10, then three fives is five more. Helping students see patterns like these can give them an alternative strategy to find an answer without guessing or resorting to counting (when the answers get higher and they're counting by ones, they tend to miscount anyway).
Copy work/Handwriting- For now, we're going to work on our handwriting books in class so you'll just be doing copy work at home. Please continue to check student's work and have them correct any misspellings in addition to letters formed incorrectly, which includes letters not written to scale. The most common handwriting mistake I am seeing in class is upper and lower case letters that are the same size and upper case letters dropped into the middle of words. We are also working on applying this same standard of excellence to ALL handwriting, including spelling sheets, history journals, etc. This quarter, the grading will be a little more strict for content as well as form.
