Geography-We are currently learning South Asia. I apologize for having Asia listed on the blog-the practice map sent home is the correct one. This map has fewer countries so I don't think students will have any trouble learning it by the end of January.
Math-I am changing our multiplication/division assessment to December 6. Based on what I am seeing in class, the students will be ready. This will also free up time for some on-going assessment to help me identify if there are any gaps from previous lessons that we need to review. Starting next semester, the math journals will be mostly used for math fact practice, at the request of administration, so they will look a little different. More details on that to come, but please make sure students have their math journals by next week to turn in. I'll keep them over the break so I can get them ready for next semester. You'll also see a baseline assessment for your student sent home. This will be our starting place in second semester-I'll also send home a blank one in case you want to work on it over the break :)
Spelling-In order to help with some of the struggling with spelling words, I'm changing what is done at home on Tuesdays. Although it looks lengthier on the blog, I don't think it will be more time consuming and hopefully will provide more specific instruction and allow for some integration and application. There will be no sentences to dictate on Tuesdays; students will correct sentences done in class on Monday for any spelling, grammar or handwriting errors and then write each spelling word from the current step 2x on a separate sheet of paper. This does not need to be turned in or kept in the binder. Also instead of the general "review card box" you'll be practicing phonograms from whatever quarter we are in on Tuesday and sound cards (dictating the sound and having student write it down) on Thursday. Sentences will still be assigned on Friday (this week you are administering the phonogram assessment tracker in lieu of sentences) and should be reviewed and corrected at that time.
Bible- The Twelve Days of Christmas curriculum can be found on: kidsofintegrity.com; scroll down to "lessons" and click on "Christmas" then "Bible Stories"). If your family has a different advent study that you prefer during this season, feel free to do that instead.
History-Please have students bring History Journals to class on December 6 so they can be graded for second quarter.
